Cleaning your windows naturally

Spring is the best time to get your home in top shape. And spring cleaning is the best reason to clean up your windows. Windows protect the inside of a home from the natural elements like rain and wind. Over time the windows get grimy and dirty. They need to be cleaned well so that they serve their purpose for another year well. You can either use a readymade glass cleaner or make one at home. Different equipment is also used to clean windows, some are small and simple, and some are larger tools if the cleaning is required for a large complex.

You draw the curtains and open windows in the spring and if you really want to enjoy the spring sunshine, it is good to get the windows cleaned. There are some natural ways through which you can clean your windows.

Vinegar

Vinegar is a cheap multi-purpose cleaner. To get shiny, streak-free windows, mix equal parts vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Spray the solution on the glass and wipe with a squeegee or cotton cloth. If the windows are extremely dirty you can clean them first with soapy water and then use the vinegar-water mix. Try undiluted vinegar for tough spots.

Cornstarch

If you are sensitive to vinegar you can try cornstarch. Mix 3 tablespoons of cornstarch with water in a 5 gallon bucket. Add a half cup of vinegar to this and use the mixture to clean. Rinse with water and polish the windows for a clean look.

Borax

If vinegar does not work, use borax. Combine 2 tablespoons of borax and 3 cups of water. Apply this mixture to the windows with a sponge. Wipe clean and then rinse with the vinegar solution mentioned above. Wear gloves for this process and then end by polishing the window.

Steel Wool

Steel wool is an option for tough stains. If the windows have hard water deposits, then gently clean them with steel wool. Wet the glass and rub with steel wool, then rinse with vinegar and water solution.

Lemon

Lemon is great for cutting through grease. Grease can be found on windows if you use a cleaner with wax-residue. You also get polished glass, as you clean it. Combine one tablespoon of lemon juice with one quart of warm water in a spray bottle. Use on a window and wipe to dry.

Newspaper

A newspaper is the best option and eco-friendly too if you need to remove dust from windows or if you need to polish them. The newspaper provides abrasive action without damaging the glass.
